Mrs Arthur should be reinstated. Somebody unlawfully without her permission accessed and distributed her pictures, while she was wholeheartedly pursuing her line of duty.

Should have never been fired! The idiot who fired her might have a education, but doesn't have common sense.

I live far from your district, in Ohio. I seldom comment on issues in the news. I must, however, speak out. Mr. Eubanks should be terminated. He is not qualified to be a Superintendent. His judgment is beyond flawed. He cannot be trusted with the education of your children. Mr. Eubanks recent comment stating the petition is "insignificant", shows a very dangerous arrogance. If he does not consider the opinions of those in the district, what does he consider? Apparently hubris is his guide. I wish Ms. Arthur and the children of your district the best. Mr. Eubanks, should be terminated!

The honorable Dr Eubanks apparently believes that this "child" is an innocent waif who is the victim of an irresponsible teacher. He fails to recognize that a 16 year old boy can also be a mysoginistic bully. And that is the case in this instance. Now that this jerk has been arrested and charged with a serious crime, perhaps Dr Eubanks will understand that what he is supporting is the criminal behavior of a total delinquent who enjoyed torturing a woman, and enjoyed wielding the power to destroy her life and career... All so that he could entertain himself. Reinstate this teacher NOW. Charge the student with the crimes he may very well be guilty of. But do not get into the game of bullying women, and do not be so insanely PC that you actually believe that children are not capable of committing horrible crimes.

Ms. Arthur sounds like a terrific teacher. Her firing was unfair. Students need to learn respect for others' property. Now is the time for the school to teach justice by example.

The teacher is already a victim of a sex crime/event. Don't make her a victim again.

Disgusting that we support criminal acts by a 16 year old. Bring the teacher back.

He invaded her privacy. She did not violate school district policy. He violated student rules of conduct.

They should get her a job somewhere else. A crime was committed against her she should not have to pay this severely because of internal rules.

The school should be supporting it's staff rather than letting the students walk all over them by disrespecting the staff.

It was wrong for the student to poke around in a teacher's phone, but a perfect exmple of why people who want to take intimate selfies to send electronically to a spouse or S.O. should use a DIGITAL CAMERA! This would never have happened in the "good old days" when nobody with half a brain would dream of carrying around intimate pics of themselves in an unsecured (yet again, "old-fashioned") photo wallet. Did common sense go out the window when smart phones became so ubiquitous?

As an attorney and former teacher, I am of the view that personal responsibility is a virtue that must at all times be valued and upheld. This student, essentially, stole the phone and its contents. All crimes. That the phone was left unlocked and out in the open is immaterial. The superintendent's position seems to suggest that, "Hey, students will steal so if you leave something out in the open, that's on you." That's the equivalent of saying that women or girls who dress provocatively have no one to blame but themselves if they are raped, because, hey, 'guys will be guys.' That's absurd. Further, the thought that this teacher is told, "resign, or else" seems an egregious violation of her due process rights. Teachers, and students, have rights as it pertains to their attendance and employment in public schools, and this teacher is entitled to a fair hearing and adherence to district procedures as it pertains to her employment. For the superintendent to suggest that, "well, she resigned, that was her decision" misstates the fact that it was by his own pressure that she was led to this decision. This is exactly why many confessions in criminal cases are thrown out, because police use their positions of authority to create a coercive environment such that the person feels they have no choice. This is illegal and improper for the police, and is likewise so for this superintendent. I would hope that the teacher here would be strongly encouraged to fight for her rights, fight for her job, and fight for the values on which our society is based. Thank you for reading. -Jamal Barnes, Esq., in New Jersey.

This woman should be supported, not punished. The student involved should be expelled. Stand up for the rights of women. Are schools to be prisons now, where no one can bring their phones or other personal items? Maybe that would help, as teachers would have to be provided all the tools they need to teach, versus purchasing them themselves.
