Dear Community of Boundary County,
Who enjoys watching horses and their riders race down to the other side of the arena, around a barrel and back across to the fininish line at Family Fun Night? Who enjoys watching their kids chase Chickens and Ducks at FFN to achieve their goal of catching one? And, who enjoys FFN being on Saturday nights, like it always has been? Well, sadly to say, that is not the case this year. There will be no horse events aloud at Family Fun Night this year. I know many community members and all 4-H Horse members are very upset about this because it is a big part of FFN that everyone looks forward to. The Chicken and Duck scramble will not be happening, it will be done with chicken eggs and kids will not be aloud to catch their own Chickens or Ducks. Along with this, FFN is moved to Thursday night. As many of you know, I am part of the Boundary County 4-H Horse program and I strive everyday to achieve goals with my horses. I wait every year until that one night at FFN to race infront of our community and show off to our 4-H sponsors a little about what we do. Many sponsors love going to FFN and notice that we are actually improving and doing well with our horses. There has never been an injury in a horse or rider at FFN so this is not an issue. This is an optional horse event and if any rider feels unsafe then they can stop at anytime. Also, to haul into FFN, the rider has to sign a liability form. Our fair shows are always before family fun night, which includes our gaming events, this means nobody can watch us ride at fair and now since we are not aloud to participate in FFN, nobody can watch us at all. This is very upsetting news to us 4-H Horse members and many community members. The 4-H and some community members signed a petition to give to the extension office, 5 of our 4-H horse members gave a word about this and sadly it is still not enough. I hope I addressed this issue in a professionally manner and I hope they reconsider, especially since fair is just around the corner!! Please share! And if you have any input please don’t be afraid to call the extension office and give your input! 2082673235
I have been reviewing your comments regarding the recent changes to the schedule and events this season. These accounts reinforce the importance of maintaining our established traditions for the youth in our community. I am currently preparing a formal letter to the organizers to address these concerns directly.

The gathering momentum behind this petition highlights just how vital these traditions remain to our local community. It is encouraging to see such collective dedication toward restoring the horse events and the classic schedule of Family Fun Night.

Why are people allowed to mess with a good thing. Just leave it alone!! I support the 4H horses. And I hope to see some mutton busting.

Thursday nights are for working people. Nobody can make it on a weeknight. Keep it on Saturday and stop changing everything for no reason.

If it’s not broken don’t fix it. Family fun night has been done this way for decades. I don’t see the harm in sticking to tradition.
