Breast is Best!!

Supporting a mom and her new baby establish and thrive on breastfeeding is key to the health of a family. Re-establishing lactation support services would allow RVH to show new moms that they are supported wholly and right from the start.

A very shortsighted and unneeded cut in the Royal Victoria Hospital's regimen.

A very important and necessary service.

I wish RVH would have had a lactation consultant when I had my daughter in April. I believe it would have been the difference between me being able to breastfed and not. The nurses are great- but lactation is not their specialty.

I feel it's really important moms get the support & help they need to get nursing established. Without it many quit & go to formula. Breast is best for babies.

Yes!! I had trouble breast feeding my daughter and it would have been great help to have a lactation consultant in the hospital rather than a nurse who could only be with me for a few minutes!! Unfortunately I ended up formula feeding when we were home because my milk would not "let down". I'm due with our second in October, so hopefully it will be a different story!

The single greatest contribution to infant health is breast feeding....unacceptable that the hospital would not support this!

My breastfeeding experience was hindered because of the lack of knowledge the nurses had in the birthing unit in regards to helping with latch. I sought out a LC in orillia hospital and fortunately was able to get on track.... 2 weeks after giving birth. RVH is an exceptional hospital and should have access to this service to be able to help new moms who want assistance with this, so they don't give u

Alone with the birth of my 1sy DD - hubby was deployed - I overwhelmed and those LC were a godsend and helped me correct latching, gave me the Rx for Dr. Newman's nipple cream, plugged ducts, and so many good things came of that experience. I got more than a year of wonderful breastfeeding my babe, that without them, I may not have had. Baby 2 was a breeze. Bring it back!!

Smaller Hospitals have better services then RVH, that is disappointing from the perspective of a member of the community.

Lactation services at RVH saved my nursing relationship with my first son. The prompt assistance we received to help correct his poor latch and my nursing pain was invaluable. I was extremely disappointed to learn that the service had been discontinued shortly after that. When I gave birth to my second son at RVH, though I had prior breastfeeding experience, we still needed the assistance of a LC, but weren't able to receive it until a week or two later. I also found that the nurses tended to give me erroneous and conflicting information about nursing, which may contribute to the cessation of breastfeeding in inexperienced nursing pairs. I would very much like to see the reinstatement of certified lactation services at RVH.

"Breast milk is best", for the babies of Barrie. Breast milk means that babies thrive and grow into healthy children with stronger immune systems. You have cut and ESSENTIAL part of a child's llife. RVH is a public hospital paid for with our tax dollars. Please stop running it as if it were your own private corporate business.

I had a LC with my first son at southlake hospital in Newmarket. It was so much help, I would have been lost without them. If southlake can have them why can't RVH?

My last babe was premie so breast milk was so important for him! I was grossly engorged and he wasn't getting what he needed to grow and be healthy. Thank god for my midwife who sat and helped me get a good latch, it truly made all the difference in the world. With a lactation consultant, every new mom could have this help!
