Paul Bunyan's Cook Shanty in the Wisconsin Dells and it's fellow Lumberjack Show are longstanding traditions for its local residents, many of whom grew up with fond memories of the food and excitement. This establishment has been around for an impressive -56 years-, and still boasts large crowds and a good time for any family.

Enter another lumberjack show, this one based in Florida, that travels around a few times a year, including one or two stops in Wisconsin itself. They have only been around for 33 years, well below the original Wisconsin Dells version. And yet, they have had the audacity to trademark the Paul Bunyan name (is that in itself even possible?) in 2014 and then SUE the Wisconsin Dells location for infringement.

First of all, the Dells location does not even host the same name. It is called the Paul Bunyan Northwoods Lumberjack Show, which is obviously different from the traveling show. The Florida based company wants all of the Dell's profits plus damages, because it could have been "confused" with their company.

Paul Bunyon's Cook Shanty responded to the news,

“We don’t believe anyone could confuse our show, which is permanently located here at the Cook Shanty, with a traveling operation from Florida,” the family wrote. “In fact, that’s the last thing we would want, since we’re understandably proud of our heritage.”

They said they are hopeful the lawsuit will be resolved soon and that they “remain confident the Paul Bunyan name will be a lasting part of our legacy in Wisconsin Dells.”

As long as the lawsuit exists, I will not attend any of the Florida's traveling shows. I will tell everyone I know what kind of company they are, and I will continue to frequent the original Dells location as often as I can. Please help me in signing this petition and spreading the word.

We here in Wisconsin and neighboring states will not allow one of our most celebration local establishments be bullied for money! Shame on you!

Reaching this new level of support feels heavy because it proves how many people truly care about protecting a local legacy. It has been an exhausting road watching this company try to bully our neighbors but seeing this reaction keeps me moving forward.

I have worked at Paul Bunyan's in the Dells for over 20 yrs and think we should boycott the one in Florida. It has been a family tradition since 1958 . We have many families coming here for generations. So shame on you Florida's traveling Paul Bunyan lumberjack show.

This was my first job ever and grew to love the family that built this company with love and compassion and thrived to be the best. They always came up with great additions through the years to compete with the best. Florida has no right to take over this hard working establishment and what they have worked hard for. Love you guys and stay strong

What a joke. Florida is for beaches not lumberjacks. Been going to the Dells show since the 70s and nobody there is getting confused with some traveling circus from down south. Leave them alone.

I think its absolute farbage what the Florida company is trying to do. The Wisconsin establishment has been around for way longer.

The Florida company who is attempting to sue the Paul Bunyans in the Dells is just looking to shamefully attain money anyway they can. Probably because they don't make any money at their own shows. We know where to see the real lumberjacks, The Dells!! YOHO!
