Ian Botham is possibly the greatest ever English cricketer. His ability with both bat and ball had no peers. Everyone remembers the famous ashes series of 1981 but there was more to IT Botham than just sticking it up the Aussies. His records speak for themselves and thanks to him cricket was brought back to the masses. He stopped the game dying a horrible death. Why the campaign for a Knighthood Yes I know that some of his exploits off the field are hardly those of a model citizen but then again Messrs Jagger, John and McCartney have all received the gong and they have hardly been squeaky clean over the years. As I said earlier his cricketing antics alone should merit a Knighthood but IT Botham should also be awarded for his charity work. He has walked thousands upon thousands of miles raising money and awareness for both Leukaemia Research and Teenage Cancer Trust. At the last count he had raised in excess of

The establishment keeps ignoring the obvious greatness of Beefy while handing out honors to people with far less impact. This surge of momentum proves they can no longer pretend we are not paying attention to who actually deserves recognition.

ABOUT TIME. if mick jagger can get one then beefy definitely deserves it. he put england cricket on the map when it was failing.

He saved cricket for me and my husband in the 80s. plus all that money for the kids with cancer is insane. Sir Beefy has a nice ring to it.
