We, the undersigned, recognize that the educational opportunity at Bonita Springs Charter School (BSCS) is offered free-of-charge to all Lee County families through Lee County\'s \"School Choice\" program. This makes BSCS \"public\" according to The New International Webster\'s Collegiate Dictionary (2002)which defines \"public\" as \"For the use of or open to all; maintained by or for the community: (i.e.)public parks.\" The community, in this case Lee County, maintains the educational opportunity at BSCS with the payment of public FTE monies to BSCS\' parent organization, Charter Schools USA. This greatly reduces Lee County\'s fiscal expenditures, as Lee County does not pay to build the Charter Schools USA schools, does not pay the charter schools\' utilities, and does not engage in recruitment efforts for the charter schools. In 2004-2005, Charter Schools USA is projected to be educating in excess of 4000 students who would otherwise be crowding existing Lee County schools.
In light of the definition of \"public\" and of the tremendous public service the charter schools provide to Lee County, we hereby request that the Foundation for Lee County Public Schools recognize and permit the involvement of BSCS in every activity available through the Foundation, including Golden Apple Awards, School Checkbook, Mini Grants, and Teacher Recruitment Packages.
I am honestly a bit overwhelmed by the steady support this has received lately. It is clear that so many of you value the work these schools do for our local families. None of this growth would be happening without the way you have all stepped up to talk about this.

Ridiculous that they get left out of things. BSCS is a great school and it helps the whole county save money too.

These teachers work just as hard as the ones in the district schools. Give them the awards they earned.

My kids go here and they deserve the same recognition as the other local schools. It is only fair!

My grandson loves his school and the teachers are amazing. They should be included in the foundation programs period.
