"Quality of life" must be fancy academic words for making children fear the colour pink. "He really struggles with the color pink. He really struggles with the color pink. He can't even really look at pink," Carol says. "He's like an addict. He's like, 'Mommy, don't take me there! Close my eyes! Cover my eyes! I can't see that stuff; it's all pink!' Yes, a caring, responsible practitioner whose therapy made children fear the colour pink. "He really struggles with the color pink. He really struggles with the color pink. He can't even really look at pink," Carol says. "He's like an addict. He's like, 'Mommy, don't take me there! Close my eyes! Cover my eyes! I can't see that stuff; it's all pink!' What Joel dishonestly neglects to mention is that he is trying to start a community for de-transitioners.

This is actually anything but disappointing. The "therapy" from Dr. Zucker and his team was the opposite of progressive - this is one of the results of their clinic - children who feared the colour pink. "He really struggles with the color pink. He really struggles with the color pink. He can't even really look at pink," Carol says. "He's like an addict. He's like, 'Mommy, don't take me there! Close my eyes! Cover my eyes! I can't see that stuff; it's all pink!' " http://www.npr.org/2008/05/07/90247842/two-families-grapple-with-sons-gender-preferences

There are limited facilities now to deal with gender identity issues, closure of this gender identity clinic is a sad day.

The report that was issued in the review of the Child and Adolescent Gender Identity Clinic contained suggestions to address various concerns which led to the review. Overall, there appeared to no clear evidence that raised questions as to the competence of Dr. Zucker, or any other indication that it was imperative to remove him from his position. That the clinic served a needed function did not seem to be challenged by the report. Nevertheless a decision was made to both close the clinic and simultaneously end Dr. Zucker's affiliation with CAMH. Statements were made while gathering information which placed Dr. Zucker in a bad light. The veracity of such testimony is questionable. They don't fit the profile of someone who has been practicing in his field for decades. We are living in a time where the balance of consideration has been skewed. We are questioning expertise based upon decades of clinical practice. It is political, there is no way to see it otherwise. My hope is that the misdirection CAMH has take can be corrected, and in the process the wrongs done to Dr Zucker corrected by statements and acts. A terrible precedent has been set, what happens when other practices are challenged?

Shame on you Toronto! We have looked up to you (pun intended) for your progressive movements in other areas of individual and sexual freedom. Disappointing!

I am a child and adolescent psychiatrist. The actions of CAMH are deeply troubling and deserve close scrutiny.
