The school policy 34 CFR 300.8 Child with a disability needs revision stating, If a child has a current IEP and all documentation of medical records have been received by the LEA/agency the IEP team members can choose the temporary LRE for the child without further documentations or Dr. recommendations if the current LRE is potentially harmful or life threatening.

November 9, 2009

The stories shared in the comments illustrate a recurring struggle for families trying to protect their children in the classroom. I am currently gathering these experiences to ensure that when we present our case, the human impact is impossible to ignore.

November 9, 2009

The momentum behind this policy request suggests that many families are feeling the same urgency regarding student safety. Seeing this level of engagement confirms that our focus on flexible educational placements is a necessary conversation for our district.

This is common sense. If a kid is being hurt by the current placement we shouldnt wait months for paperwork. Change this now.

The amount of red tape parents have to go through is insane. Just let the IEP team look out for the kid instead of making us wait on more doctors notes.

completely agree. nobody should have to put their child in a life threatening situation just because of some policy.

My son has dealt with this exact issue and it is heartbreaking. Schools need to be able to act fast when a child is in danger.
