In anticipation of the arrival of Major League Soccer to Toronto in 2007 we the undersigned petition the franchise owners MLSE to name the franchise the BLizzard in honour of the long and storied history of the club.
The Toronto Blizzard were members of the North American Soccer League, the National Soccer League and the Canadian Soccer League btween 1979 and 1992. Kicking off literally in a blizzard in April of 1979 against the Fort Lauderdale Strikers at Exhibition Stadium.
Over the seasons many international greats including the likes of Roberto Bettega (Italy), Jomo Sono (south Africa), Peter Lorimor (Scotland), Jan Moller (Sweden), Ace Ntsoelengoe (South Africa) and David Byrne (England) contributed to the Blizzard legacy.
Canadian players also contributed to the growth and high profile of the franchise with the players like Bruce Wilson, Randy Ragan, Pasquale DeLuca, Colin Miller, Paul James, Trevor McCallum and Paul Peschsolido earning their stripes with the team. A number of these were part of Canada\'s only World Cup Finals team appearing in Mexico in 1986.
The franchise was a part of the most successful truly Canadian league the CSL in the late 80\'s and early 90\'s winning a number of division titles and appearing in the finals.
I honestly stared at the screen for ten minutes because I truly did not think this many people still felt the cold sting of those Exhibition Stadium nights. It feels like the Blizzard name is waking up from a long nap and honestly the energy is just surreal right now.

Much better than some generic name they'll probably pick otherwise.

The name just belongs to Toronto soccer. It’s what we grew up with at Exhibition Stadium.
