I am electronically signing my name to the Berwind Lake petition. As someone who grew up there, it was and is the only recreation spot in that area to ice skate, picnic, swim, hike, have family gatherings and explore!

Personally even if the pool is closed the Park could still be maintained. If they are keeping one worker the DNR could go through workforce and have the worker supervise them in keeping the landscaping maintained. They have done it for years. State doesn't have to pay them. They can work for their checks. Also the same with keeping the shelters open. The workers can keep up the cleaning and maintenance. Don't see why the County Commission could not help with the garbage bags and toilet tissue for the toilets and garbage cans. Wasn't the Federal Prison and Stevens Correctional supposed to have brought in over 40 million a year in just housing fees. Looks like the Commission could spare enough for at least toilet tissue and garbage bags. I am sure War City Hall could help with the Garbage disposal.

My Green Beret husband (Joe Alderman) and I enjoyed visiting McDowell Co., War, Caretta, Bartley, Welch, several times a year since we graduated from BCHS in '58-60. He's passed away from exposure to Agent Orange, related to 7 yrs combat in VN, but I have spent several months at a time with my Mother, past few years, who lives off Rt 16, in McDowell Co., and I financially support local programs for Children, tho I live near Ft Bragg. Thank you for the pride we have always felt taking visitors and meeting family and friends at Berwind Lake area. We appreciate any future budget allowances, or suggestions, designed to help keep the park fully operational, as well as beautifully maintained... This area is in desperate need for additional resources! Please don't strip one of the few resources it has from children and families. I have read that drug abuse is a huge problem in this area. Giving young people recreational opportunities is one way to combat youth falling into inappropriate behaviors. Berwind Lake is a crucial natural resource. It's pool offers children a resource for exercise and socialization. Please stop the closing of this lake for park purposes!

our family enjoys this place every year we think it is unfair of this state doing this to everyone and they need to be ashamed for what they are doing we pray that they change there minds our children and grand kids should not have to miss out just because of a budget cut so some one else can get this money up in the northern counties like green brier county close the gulf course's the football field there stop taking away form our kids they deserve to get things not to have more things taken away give our kids a fair chance at what they need to enjoy there free time in the years to come stop treating us all like dirt we are not giving up with out a fight .

Our children need some kind of entertainment, My kids love going to the park and enjoy a good cook-out and absolutely love the POOL!! They need to have something to do or I'm afraid they'll turn to other means of entertainment such as crime, drugs, unhealthy ways of partying etc. Please don't take it away. Thank you.

I ask that they don't cut out the one thing this community has to enjoy and to have their kids grow up to enjoy. I grew up and spent a lot of time; fishing, hiking and swimming at this park and remains dear to my now just as it did then.

This is so unfair in a place where there is nothing to do to begin with and you wonder why drug rates and crime are so high!
