As of right now Spelman has stopped the Spelman Black Celebrity Giving organization and all further activity due to a "conflict of interest with Spelman's fundraising efforts" and a misconception that Black Celebrity Giving is using Spelman BCG as a gateway to free event space and advertising. These accusations are completely FALSE.The purpose of our organization--as stated in our Constitution-- states: "The purpose of Black Celebrity Giving, Spelman Section is to enrich the lives of others through highlighting Black celebrity philanthropy, hold cause campaignsthat raise awareness and materials to the nation's leading causes, perform community service projects that align with the cause campaigns, inform people on issues affecting the black community and engage Black celebrities with Spelman students for the purpose of giving back." We a community service organization, not a fundraising organization and Spelman Black Celebrity Giving is a separate entity from BlackCelebrityGiving.com that hosts separate events and cause campaigns. This is why we need YOUR help! We are starting a petition to save our organization! By signing our petition you are acknowledging that you understand our purpose and support the Spelman BCG organization on campus.
This makes absolutely no sense. Spelman should be helping students get more involved in philanthropy not shutting them down over some silly misunderstanding. Let them work!
