Unexceptable. Glad to see that the current student body is taking a stand against this.

The Recycling Center at the back of the Maintenance has been shuttered for far too long. Funding must be provided to reinvigorate the work study system or to contract outside support to tackle the abysmal state of recycling on The Hilltop.
Student studies done for the UES 150 class have generated 100's of proposals to decrease Southern's environmental impact yet nothing significant has been done to decrease our impact since the building of Lakeview.
Compared to many of our fellow ACS members, BSC lags far behind in taking responsibility for the impact the college has on the environment.
We should be a positive example for our local community and the greater Birmingham area, not treat recycling bins as trash cans and allow the Caf to use disposable plates and silverware for days on end when the conveyor belt breaks down.

Simply, we need to be recycling. An institution as large as ours has no excuse.

This was a prevalent issue when I was at BSC (2010-2014). As SGA Initiatives Committee Chair, we were able to secure more recycling bins for the entire fraternity row, as well as other places on campus. It's sad to see that these aren't being used like they were when I was there, and that all that hard work apparently went to waste. This is a great movement. Keep the school in check! Forward ever.

Yes please!! Recycling is such a simple way to be more environmental conscious. In addition to recycling plastic, glass, and aluminum bottles, we should also be recycling paper as well :)

My roommate and I thought we were recycling all of freshmen year until we saw housekeeping dump all the recycling in with the other trash. People already use the beans on campus appropriately, so why can't thy be disposed of appropriately as well?

Additionally, our private recycle bins that we take to the plant ourselves have been emptied into general trash by housekeeping before. If we adopted a broader policy of recycling, I'm sure this would no longer happen!

There really is no excuse for an institution that houses the Southern Enviro. Center and a thriving UES dept. to not make this a priority and a reality.

This should be common sense. A system of recycling is necessary for our futility as a university!

Creating compost bins would be great and could help with gardening efforts!
