As a Scottish property law practitioner I would dearly like to know that the history of how our lands laws were formed is available to the public, and myself.

This is an essential book on one of most forgotten periods of Scottish History.

"Neil Davidson, author of The Origins of Scottish Nationhood and the Deutscher-Prize winning Discovering the Scottish Revolution, said: "At a time when demand for a de-mythologised Scottish history is more necessary than ever, it is incomprehensible why Birlinn have refused to republish this important work which helps us understand the transition to capitalist agriculture across Scotland as a whole."

I had the good fortune to have been involved in the original influential radio series which was the progenitor for this book. The decision of the publisher not to reprint it is incomprehensible.Birlinn should think again!

I am the co-author, and want to thank everyone who is doing this. Andy Cassell and I have tried to get the publishers to re issue, but they seem wholly uninterested. This shows there is demand ..so thank you all again very much indeed

This is a part of Scotland's history that is conveniently forgotten and should be known and understood. It wasn't all that long ago that the Highland Clearances were unadmitted by the Establishment. Let light be thrown on the Lowland Clearances as well.

The story of a part of the country that has been forgotten about time and time again needs to be told.
