There's a gap in our mental picture of Scotland's history. This book would go a long way in helping to fill that gap.

I grew up in Ayrshire but I do not remember ever hearing about the Lowland Clearances. "The Lowland Clearances" is a very clear exposition of this period in our history and deserves to be widely read.

It was the reason I set up www.strainsofeden.net which aims to rediscover Scotland's radical song tradition, starting with 'Levellers' Lines'.

This book provides significant information for genealogists seeking to explain to people why their Scottish ancestors may have been forced to move from the area where they were born.

Yes, that book was like a bolt from the blue, our true history revealed. I read it at one sitting.

Birlin do a great job in supporting Scottish stories- I would like to encourage them to reprint this book about the lowland clearances-
Seems like what's being 'cleared' is our cultural history

The history of Scotland is crucial to our understanding of contemporary society and is a sadly neglected part of our education system. This book would go a long way in addressing this.

Dear Sir /Madam,
We had the authors of this book to give a lecture last weekend. Thoroughly enjoyed the presentation and now would like to buy the book. The children of today deserve to know their history.
Many thanks
Don Rowson
