A group of young people from Billericay in Essex have formed a committee to work towards getting a new skate park. They are working with youth workers and the youth town council to achieve the goal. The skate park is a well used facility providing a place for young people to meet, ride BMX's, use skateboards or for inline skaters. Most of the original ramps were put in place quite a few years ago and through constant use are now in desperate need of replacing. They need to show there is a demand for a new skate park not only for the young people in Billericay but also for other young people who may travel to the area if new ramps and layout were in place.
I spent the morning looking at the rusted ramps and thinking about how much our kids need a safe place to ride. The youth committee is meeting with local council members soon to show them exactly why these upgrades are long overdue.

Seeing this kind of energy for the park proves that our town finally recognizes how much our kids need a safe place to ride. Watching the momentum build reminds me of how much I missed having a decent space for my own brother to practice his tricks here in Billericay.

The current setup is falling apart. My lad keeps coming home with bits of metal stuck in his wheels. About time we had something decent in town.

Its nice to see the local teens taking initiative to improve things for themselves. Really hope they get the funding for this.

Proper ramps would keep the kids active and off the streets. Billericay needs to invest in the youth.

PLEASE BUILD THIS!! The kids have literally nowhere else to go and end up just hanging round the shop fronts which causes grief for everyone.

Used to use the old park years ago and it was always packed. If they update it more people will come from out of town too.
