An art school without its own library and documentation centre is most unfortunate. Theory and practice should be separated as little as possible. The history and context of the arts is part of the daily practice of young artists. If at all possible: students should have access to historical and theoretical sources and references at the rhythm of their daily work. If this is possible in Sint-Lukas today and would no longer be possible in the future: what a regression, and what nonsense.

As a former student I remember the library as one of my favourite place in Luca. Fantastic to be able, between two classes, to check the work of an artist that we’ve been discussing or to take a book to read at home in the evening . This was possible because the library was so much embedded in my daily movements. No need to make an extra effort to go to another place. I also remember the kindness and professionalism of the librarians. They were like family for many students, always ready to help but also to open us a world by preparing gorgeous presentation’s table for the new book arrivals. I remember checking these tables every week. What is also important is the size of the library (which is perfect in Luca) not too big so it feels more like entering a living room full of books instead of an anonymous institution. Also great place to bump into a professor for a little chat or a fellow student for some support. So yes this Luca library needs to stay where it is! It’s the warm heart of Luca!

Easy and immediate acces to books is a vital aspect to a good information source to inhace our skills ans knowledge. If this will be scatterd across Brussels the leap for the students pay prove to much. Certainly when our time is already limeted being architecture students. Please keep this in mind!
