B.I. Project- Providing Homes

I strongly believe this needs to happen and Im happy that there is more people who see this and bring it to light because their are so many loopholes that corporations can get away with as of getting all this land for pennies on a dollar and try to take over all of our small businesses which Hawaii is well known for . Also our infrastructure is not built for all these people to keep moving here we should have a say. It is only a small island that everyone thinks they can just move here . We need to adapt laws like New Zealand where you can visit but you cant move here and we definitely need educated Hawaiians in office.No more vehicles on our roads .

Hawaii alone is being over developed and the cost/sacrifice for residents is financial, culture and aina/(economy). We should only develop if it contributes to all areas. New developments should cater to residents, restorations of resources, Promoting education. Residents or hawaiians are resources to what the islands are today. Through the reciprocal relationship between residents, state and economy with one taking care of the other. (Live,spend, taxes , laws ect...all done to malama the other.) events of today should show that government is supporting the hawaiians as a nationality of people. A people whose recognition is still being brought to light. I say this with the intent that Hawaiians are a factor of all three areas. Economy 1. the wealth and resources of a country or region, especially in terms of the production and consumption of goods and services 2. careful management of available resources.

I understand it's frustrating as a renter, there is discrimination and a lack of rentals/high cost of living, definitely........I agree with many of the points on this petition, but not all of them. I'm just asking to look at some of these points from a different perspective. Everybody dreams of owning a home someday right?Tthe only way many of us can ever hope to realize that dream in Hawaii is by counting on the income from an ohana to help pay the mortgage, would you still agree with all of the points on this petition if you were in that situation? It seems to me that enforcing rent control and/or limits on vacation rentals in these situations (-and I'm not talking about luxury vacation homes with out of country owners) will only force more lower/middle class people out of the housing market and back into the rental market....adding to the problem....

I need a place to live that allows cats

Need Safe housing affordable for everyone. Need tiny homes too.

Hope to see change! ! Me and my partner work full time and still can't barely afford to live !! Born and raised in Hawaii. Hawaiian mix blood !! What a shame that we need to be in such poverty and rent is so high we can't wait to see change

Housing shouldn't cost that much

Housing costs have increased well beyond the cost of living, as has the availability of affordable housing units. If the housing costs continue to rise more Hawaii residents will suffer from situational homelessness, or choose to leave the islands for good. Unfortunately, this plight affects many Native Hawaiians who are desperately trying to survive in their homeland. Please legislate solutions for this social problem and keep us informed of your progress. God Bless your efforts.

Just looking for some fairness

The housing situation or lack of it is very sad On The Big Island Of Hawaii.. There are many vouchers being given out to the poor or disabled but they do not reach the price people are asking. People are forced to live in really bad small places that are over priced. Families are forced to live apart and even break up over this stress. Even for the people who work full time two able bodied this is not bringing in enough to cover costs after utilities and everything else. There are so many abandoned houses too. This is not right and not human to make people pay for health or too much for a home. If they are able and willing to work or not, homes can be available and jobs offered even from home. I really hope we can all come together and make positive changes to improve this. Mahalo God Bless

Constantly looking for places to rent on big island and can never find anything in the 1100$ range that allows pets. Very frustrating.

I agree with the petition except I would add to limit out of country non owner occupied land & home purchase. I don't think maids should be required.

It's unfair that wages here do not match the cost of rent.

Love this! Too many of us locals, born and raised in HI have a hard time looking for rentals! The people should always have priority. We have a large family consisting of 8 children and we often get denied because our family is too large! I hope they make a change and make living here in our home Island easier for the people of HI.

I know there's plenty of space for everyone here, why isn't there more affordable housing available for locals?

High rents are forcing my family into a bad situation.

I have been homeless 3 times in the 6 years I've lived on this island. 2 times because the rentals weren't really legal, no lease signed & the landlords were drug-addled, unscrupulous & greedy. I'm an animal lover, had 2 pets, which makes finding housing even more difficult. I spent @$2000/month boarding my pets while I slept in my truck & still worked 40+ hours/week. Something MUST change. Tax the s#&t out of vacation rental owners. Fine the illegal vacation rentals. Too many people need long-term rentals.
