More needs to be done to protect and care for helpless, neglected, abused animals

I think the laws in this country regarding animal cruelty are disgraceful. If somebody has been found to be cruel or neglectful of any animal large or small they should feel the ful weight of the law and not just a slapped wrist, There should be a fine and prison time and a lifetime ban fro ever keeping any animal. This should be the punishment all three and not just one depending on the level of the crime. If you are found to be mistreating an animal the prison sentence and fine should be measured accordingly but you should get both, and then the lifetime ban. Too may animals are suffering at the hands of evil twisted owners and dying horrible deaths.

I'm from Germany, studying in Ireland and working at a Dog Sanctuary as a volunteer. The almost non-existance of animal protection here is absolutely shocking, as well as the amount of strays here. We live in the 21th century where it is scientifically proven that animals feel the same emotions as we do. Something has to change here.

Ireland needs to wake up and finally do something to ensure the welfare of animals, no more killing pounds, no more starving horses at the roadside, no more cruel hare chasing, no more greyhound racing, no more dog stealing, no more travellors stealing and selling pets, no more ..., no more... an endless LIST OF SHAME

Laws have to drastically change in relation to animal welfare. I am sick seeing horrific abuse and no one held accountable. Certain minorities in this country are also responsible for a lot of abuse of animals in this country and use their culture to hide behind it. Ignorance is rife also among a lot of people especially with working animals. Things have to change.
