Better Hours for Little Blue Canyon Project

There should have been a better way. The road should have been left open and they could have built a tunnel or a bridge. Their is a lot of traffic, Logging Trucks, Cattle Truck. Cars. RV's and Emergency Vehicles. Plus a lot of medical patients go to Montrose for treatments. Also, what about the wildlife, fishing and etc.??? People from Lake City, travel Hwy 50 also.

We plan to spend our first full summer at Arrowhead and now this fiasco. Seriously one lane alternating escorted traffic, for two hours at a time over a four mile detour. The line of cars and trucks will never be cleared out in that allotted time. I have spent 40 years in the Highway construction industry, and I can say that these traffic limitations would be unacceptable on the smallest of county roads in Texas. We do not have extended road closures for construction, we use lane closures, phasing, temporary detours, and work at nights. All roadways are open from 6AM to 10 PM daily. This does result in higher costs, safety concerns for both contractor and public, and creates longer construction durations, but the traveling public keeps moving. It can be done if CDOT would make it happen. This seasonal resident isn't going to tell everyone and CDOT what to do but I would strongly suggest that the least CDOT does is to complete the 1/2 to 3/4 mile of work to the west of 867 (Alpine Rd) prior to starting any work to the east. This will ease the accessibility of Arrowhead residents ( to the west at least) and will not have crippling impacts on the project. No matter what the final design brings, we will all need to exercise patients over the coming couple of years on Highway 50.

We can't afford more economic pressure on our businesses, not to mention inconvenience and burden for those who use this highway for their livelihood.

I understand the difficult logistics to work on this section of road. But many of us use this road frequently as part of our livelihood and we have difficult logistics now to contend with as well

This will be horrible for livestock transportation. Animals will be at risk.

Shutting down a major highway for that long is a hardship we should not have to endure

We have a ranches in Gunnison and Norwood. We haul cattle and sheep over Blue during spring and summer. We also have to drive back and forth to check on livestock and employees. The suggested time of 2 hours in the am and pm and an hour at noon, will not be enough time to allow the traffic from one direction to pass. Livestock haulers cannot just sit with their loads, especially in the heat. There needs to be some priority and guarantee for livestock haulers. What happens if I-70 is forced to close again like last summer?

Please take into account how significantly the current plans for closure of the Little Blue Creek Canyon Project will impact the Western Slope and listen to our legislators.

There has to be better options than just 4 hrs a day. This is a vital link in Westetn Colorado

I support the new proposal.. Add an hour to each period of time the highway will be open..

Ms. Lori Dean said it well: I too have property at Arrowhead. This project is NOT READY TO MOVE FORWARD. Please review the project on I 70 Glenwood Canyon. Review the procedures used for that project and likewise, allow Highway 50 to remain open. It worked then and it can work now. This on top of the economic hardships resulting from the Coronavirus pandemic has left us all particularly vulnerable. The additional burden for businesses by this unrealistic schedule will ensure businesses that might have otherwise survived will not. Remember these businesses pay Property Taxes, City Sales Tax and create jobs which will all be lost. HEAR OUR VOICES!!!!

During the summer tourist season there is a lot of traffic on Hwy 50. There is no way backed up traffic will get through in one hours time.

I am a daily commuter and due to the current schedule it turns my 8 hour days into an 11 hour day because I have to wait till 5:30 to make the last opening and daycare is also a problem as I can't keep my child at daycare till 6-7pm

Gunnison needs the tourism that comes through this HWY. Extended hours is needed to keep our county workers employeed.

This is a major US Highway, not only used by locals but also by thousands of non-locals.

This highway is a vital artery for Western Colorado transportation.

Please open this up A little more. Our recreational and personal lives depend on it.

This is outrageous and absolutely disenfranchises the people of Western Colorado. Absolutely unacceptable to cutoff this vital arterial for the region for the amount of time they intend each day.
