I've shot dozens of these types of events. Safety is the #1 priority of everyone including the participants.

I managed United States Shooting Academy we hosted some of the biggest shooting competitions in the world last year and I can tell you it is the only way to go as well as perfectly safe.

The club, should be able to shoot 180, or side berms, because some matches, would be improved, by having this extra challenge.

With properly constructed side berms, proper stage design, and active range safety officers, there is virtually no additional safety concern with a 180 degree field of fire as opposed to back berm impacts only.
Decades of IPSC, USPSA, IDPA, 3 Gun/Multigun, and now 3GN have proven the track record.
As a range, I understand that your risk management is imperative to your success, and safety record. While I applaud your active risk management, shooting a properly constructed side berm that is down range (forward of shooter) poses no conceivable additional risk over shooting targets using the rear berm as a backstop.

I have been shooting USPSA and 3-Gun since 2007. 180 degree matches have a proven track record of safety.

I've been a CRO in USPSA for over 10 years and I've never witnessed a safety concern from a wide field of fire during a match.

I've never even heard of a range not allowing you to shoot into the side berms before this. Sounds ridiculous!
