The FSU Belly Dancers at Pow Wow

I miss you guys, hope you get into homecoming Pow Wow. You're dances are so amazing.

I think it's cool that our school even allows student organizations to perform at a once a year pep rally. The cheerleaders and golden girls are part of our school's spirit traditions so they are a necessity to a Pep Rally. The comedian lineup are the most diverse ever so you can tell this student run organization is trying hard to cultivate diversity.

If cheerleaders and dancers are able to perform at the pow wow, then these girls should also be able to. There is nothing wrong with bring a little cultural diversity into the pow wow. After all, FSU is diverse itself.

I strongly support the FSU Belly Dancers. They will bring diversity to the annual homecoming event Pow Wow.

Not necessarily. The reason this one is biased is because what you all are making it seem like is that all orgs should just make petitions to perform instead of auditioning. Also it's not just about size, it's about quality of the performance. I remember my freshman year other large organizations were denied a spot too.

I hope this works out, I would love to see you perform!

We appreciate your feedback. Aren't all petitions technically biased towards the cause they are fighting for? We would not be petitioning if we agreed that the process was fair; we were informed that there is a limited number of space for "large dance companies". We are not a "large dance company", we are a 7-person student organization. To compare our audition against actual large dance companies like Seminole Dance Force and Dance Fusion is hardly fair. Especially when our style is vastly different.

Hi Victoria, thank you for your response. The only time The FSU Belly Dancers have ever performed in Pow Wow was in 2013. Since then our troupe has improved and our following/demand has grown. Have you seen the line up of the past Pow Wow's or do you know who made it this year? Many of the same organizations are seen repeatedly (some are not even campus organizations). We are not claiming to be the only diverse organization on campus, but regardless, there is a change we are looking to catalyze and we are not the only people who agree that it needs to happen.

Did you all know that there are organizations participating at PowWow for the first time (ever) this year? Maybe they didn't get it before because the bellydances have performed "multiple times" as people mentioned below. Is my organization supposed to be replaced just because you all didn't get a spot? Bellydancers are not the only symbol of diversity in this University. Don't get me wrong, you all are great but so are the other organizations that ARE performing this year. You all can always try it next year, let some people enjoy this moment for once.
