The landlords finally folded and Belle's Bagels is coming back to the neighborhood. We refused to let them price us out and shut us down. Keep your eyes peeled because we are officially moving in.

Dear Friend,

To those of you we were lucky enough to meet, we know it's been a while. And to those of you we never got to, it's time to change that here.

It's fair to say Belle's began with one person, when Nick set out to recreate a great bagel. Not long after we applied to the city as a two-person cottage food business, painted "Belle's Bagels" on a crooked slate sign, and started hosting booths at trade shows and local markets. With the help of a few dedicated friends we made it out of the house and surrendered our sleeping hours for our pop-up in the corner of a panaderia. Now, to take the next step and open a brick and mortar, we're asking for your help.

We see the shop as a place for people across neighborhoods, generations, and cultures to enjoy the bagel that we're all missing. Having grown up in Los Angeles, we never took for granted the access we have to different cultures and foods. And as much as we love seeing the sun rise, it isn't just for the love of making bagels that we want to open Belle's Bagels - it's the idea that we could be a part of what makes our this neighborhood, and our city, great. We're dedicated to being here, and we wrote this petition with the hopes that the feeling is mutual.

As a new, small business in a competitive area we've learned that Belle's can't be built without the support of the community. By signing below you lend your voice to ours in telling the neighborhood's landlords that Belle's Bagels already has a home here - we just need a roof.

Thank you for reading,

Nick & JD

We just hit 500 signatures and the neighborhood landlords are officially on notice. These property owners keep ignoring us, but they cannot ignore half a thousand people demanding that we get our space back.

The momentum behind this push is real and the landlords ignoring our community are going to have a hard time looking away now. We have proved that this neighborhood demands Belle's back so let's keep the pressure on until they actually listen.

As a long time Highland Park resident, born and raised and Franklin class of 93', Panther Pride. I would like to see Belle's unique brand in my hometown and if it blows up like I know it will, to see them provide to support for the local community I called home for most of my life.

I support Belle's Bagels as a brick and mortar store. I am from New Jersey and know what a real bagel is and at Belle's I always found the perfect bagel, not the cake like imitation found in donut shops or the frozen food section of Von's. They have my vote.

With the possible demise of Brooklyn Bagel Bakery, we are having a genuine bagel crisis in Central LA. If Belle's were to open in Highland Park/Eagle Rock, I would single-handedly keep them in business.

Often visit Highland Park (from Pasadena), and this will be one more great reason. A request: once you're located, perhaps a few of the most-traditional-of-all water bagels with no seeds or spices covering the bagel's dense wholesomeness?

My husband and I loved grabbing delicious fresh bagels and schmear from Belle's Bagels! Some of the best bagels I've ever had, and an establishment the East Side definitely needs. Just open already!

As a food writer and editor who has lived in East L.A., I know deeply how badly L.A. needs a quality bagel spot. Belle's is the answer to that need. Let these men bring their delicious round snacks to your neighborhood, please!
