We the parents of the children in the Fort Wayne-South Bend diocese do not consent to the mandatory masking of our school children. It must be a parental and familial decision.

A family who chooses to do so may mask their children. A family who believes that masking causes irreversible emotional, mental, and physical damage to their children may choose not to mask their children.

The FWSB diocese has stated that the measures being taken in our parishes are a gesture of love for one another’s sensitivities and vulnerabilities. In a school setting, children are the most vulnerable. The continued mask mandate in our school system is not about our children since we know that they are not major transmitters of COVID, nor are they vulnerable to death from COVID. Many medical professionals dispute the efficacy of masks and discuss the risks they pose to children’s physical and mental health. Alternative therapeutics and emergency use vaccines are available for adults and teachers who wish to receive them. It is critical that parents decide what is best for their own vulnerable young.

It is time to restore this decision to the Domestic Church, the home.

We request Bishop Kevin Rhoades to approve OPTIONAL MASKING of our children.

Romans 12:2: Do not be conformed to this world, but transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Moving toward two hundred and fifty signatures helps demonstrate that our request reflects the genuine concerns of many families within the diocese. Please consider inviting others from our community to view this petition as we prepare to present our collective position to the Bishop.

April 29, 2021

Reaching one hundred signatures feels like a quiet confirmation that many families value the primary role of the home in these decisions. This number represents a clear consensus among us that the responsibility for our children belongs in the domestic church.

Reaching one hundred signatures will demonstrate that a significant portion of our community seeks the restoration of parental authority. I ask that you invite another family to consider this petition so we may present a unified message to the Bishop.

We are wonderfully made with divine inspiration, to breathe air unrestricted. When we interfere with God’s design, it interferes with God’s intricate design and creates problems. Give parents back the control to shepherd their own children.

Unmask our children! It is causing mental health issues and does not help. We are responsible for our own health!

Our son has special needs and we feel it is critical to his development that he see his classmates faces, their expressions, and how to properly enunciate the words he is learning to say. He can't do that behind a mask. We love our Catholic school and pray the masks end soon.

I agree this should be up to the parents. We should not be virtue shamed for choosing what we believe is best for ourselves and our children.

I pulled my children out of Catholic schools this year because of the mask mandate. I hope the Catholic Church can soon again be tough, leaders in moral teaching, and not giving into worldly concerns.

The teachers now all have had the opportunity to be vaccinated thus allowing the children to not wear masks.

The problem is your decision not to mask is making safety decisions for my children

Please ask your family’s doctor to remove their masks for all procedures normally required by them.
