This petition is to ask the Peninsula School District Board of Directors to run a
capital finance measure in April.
Last fall, Peninsula School District
voters came close to passing a capital improvements levy. This
levy would have funded
a much needed new school in Gig Harbor North to address the growth and
overcrowding that is threatening the entire district; a new school to
replace the deteriorating building at Artondale; and critical safety,
technology, systems and athletic field
improvements district wide. These needs have not gone away. In fact,
they are more pressing than ever. Our students deserve our support.
The signatures below represent community support to
run a $55.9M Five-year Levy this spring. This levy will
include all of the previous levy's budget items plus address specific
priority improvements for Key Peninsula Middle School. We support
running the
levy in April instead of August. Data shows that levies run in April
have the best passing
rate. Furthermore, our goal is to represent the community as much as
possible, and there is less voter turnout in August than in April.
Great schools make great communities. It's our responsibility to provide our students with safe, quality schools.
Key Peninsula Middle School really needs these improvements. It feels like we are always last on the list for priority repairs.
