BCSD parents/students in favor of the new calendar with a fall break

Fall break is a great thing for students and families. Wish it were a week earlier.

"First of all" - Before you try and rip someone on an open forum, you may want to actually read the email first! The 12-1 vote for the fall break was the calendar COMMITTEE and not the School Board. Have a nice day Anonymous!

I support the boards decision!

First of all-- just where are you getting a 12-1 vote??? There are only 7 board members and one was not present. This is all great for the elementary students. It does not serve the high school students. Look to our east-- PV CERTAINLY is not looking at this type of a schedule. Look to our north, NS certainly is not looking at this. This kind of a break is not for the high school student that is working hard on their academia and preparing for their ACT and AP testing. I understand that it sounds great to have a fall break when you are in elementary and maybe even middle school. This break absolutely does not benefit the High School.

I am in full support of a fall break. The draft calendars were published, and parents were given ample opportunity to submit input. Anyone expressing displeasure now is too late.

I fully support the one week fall break and the boards decision to approve the calendar for the 2017-2018 school year.

I support the school board's decision to have a fall break. I respect the fact they are trying to make decisions that are best for ALL students and staff. The goal is preparing ALL students, and to do that, we need passionate and energetic staff, time to collaborate and prepare the best curriculum for our students, and the support from home. Trust those who work with your children every day. They are our guiding force, and what's best for them is our top priority. It's five days. Let's give it a try and re-visit the topic next year.

I support the school boards decision.

I support the calendar that the calendar committee after several meetings/discussion decided was the best for all students which is the one with a week long fall break.

I think fall break is great, just like spring break. The kids need the time off periodically.

I fully support the boards decision to compromise with a one week fall break.

Data suggests that student achievement stagnates over the summer, and that for low achieving and disadvantaged students especially, achievement can often decline. Although the proposed (1 week fall break) calendar isn’t quite a modified year round (or balanced) calendar, it is still providing students with more frequent and consistent breaks from school as well as a shortened summer. While it will certainly require an adjustment for some, the changes will most definitely provide both students and staff with time to regroup when they most need it. Frequent breaks allow them to recharge and come back to school ready to work. For those who are worried about childcare, I have heard that local facilities like the YMCA may offer something during that fall break. I know that in Rock Island (where the entire district has a balanced calendar), many camps and services are offered to students/families over breaks from school.

I'm in support of the school board decision to have a Fall Break.

Please keep the fall break. The decision has been made for this school year and approved. Give it a year and then revisit next year if need be. Lets spend time on other more important issues and follow through on the decision made and honor it.

I am in support of fall break. I feel it provides a much-needed mental break for the students and staff, and allows everyone to return renewed. With the long wait to get the calendar finalized, it does not make sense to go back and extend the process even further, as it has already delayed planning for next year that needs to get underway.

I am in full support of fall break. I have been on both the traditional BCSD calendar and the balanced calendar and have seen the benefits a fall break can provide for students!
