BCBA's Supervision by C. Psychologists in the Delivery of the DFO Services in the New OAP

I run an ABA/IBI centre, and a BCBA is not sufficient to supervise children's caseload. We have hired BCBA's in the past, their degree is not worth the paper it is printed on.

BCBA working at school boards don't always follow Professional and Ethical compliance code. Try to submit complaint against a BCBA and see what ONTABA will respond - nothing!

I cannot emphasize how important it is for a clinical psychologist to be looking over my son's progress. BCBA's are not trained. You cannot ask a bus driver to fix his bus when it breaks down. HE IS NOT A MECHANIC!

I cannot over emphasize the importance of this petition. As a service provider the support and clinical competency I have gained from having a RHP (C.Psych) supervise my IBI (and other) caseload is invaluable.

Please put the needs of children first. Removing the requirement of a clinical psychologist overseer does NOT benefit children. This is the professional agenda of organizations who want professional autonomy on the backs of our children. Please keep this requirement of the C. Psych. BCBA are unlicensed/un-regulated and have a very narrow scope of practice (behaviour) that makes them inappropriate as supervisors of this program. There is too much potential for conflict of interest if they are also acting as senior therapist as well as the owner of a centre that they service (as many are). Children deserve the additional oversight of the clinical psychologist.

Cause Ontario families already have enough expenses. They don't need unnecessary excess wasteful expenses.

Trained Professionals will greatly impact a child's development.
To cut cost on where it counts is to stifle the development of our future generations.
STOP CUTTING COSTS on where it counts!!
There is an undeniable risk if we leave their upbringing to untrained workers.

There are already too many organizations that rarely supervise and properly train their staff and therapists, please do not allow it to continue further by removing this level of supervision.

Please do not remove the overseer role of Clinical Psychologist in the new OAP. BCBAs are experts in IBI/ABA, but they have limited training in child development, autism, or mental health. Clinical psychologists are trained to understand the bio-psycho-social underpinnings of autism and ensure that the child receiving IBI/ABA is receiving the treatment in a way that takes into account the bio-psycho-social components. Without this understanding, the IBI/ABA treatment will lack effectiveness, and could even be harmful to the child. Please make the right decision and keep the Clinical Psychologist in the role of the overseer of IBI/ABA programming.
