Batala is an amazing cultural asset to our community. Let's support their right to practice in Central Park. The vibrant arts and music community in Durham is part of what makes it such a great place to live. Please sign this petition if you agree. (And go see Batala because they are great!)

The park and drummers were there before people moved in...if you don't want to hear them, don't move in there!

Please allow this cultural and artistic group perform and rehearse in their current space. It is groups like these that showcase diversity and the importance of music in the community.

People who live downtown, near a public space, should expect some noise -- especially during the day/evening hours.

I stand with Batala and Durham. We need to be about building community not catering to the whims of one or two folks who feel entitled and expect their neighborhood to reshape itself to suit their own personal preferences when they move in.

A city is a voluntary gathering that has no obligation to cater to individual suburban desires. It is fundamentally wrong for new arrivals to silence the culture that makes each city alive and unique. Evict the complainant, not the culture; for they are the enemy and a destructive threat to the city.

My family have been in Durham since the mid-1800's and I have lived near downtown my entire life. Whilst development and change are necessary to keep any community thriving, it does seem that new arrivals come to Durham don't fully embrace what makes our home unique.
