Baseball Stadium in the City of Madison - No Donations Required

I think the registered Madison voters should be able to vote on whether or not we want to invest in a baseball stadium.

Please allow us to vote on this issue.

Road repair and expansion is much more important than this money pit.

I worry about developer/ball team director Breland's role in the deal (moving the Bay Bears from Mobile is not a done deal) considering his history in dealing with the city, e.g. surreptitiously attempting to cede valuable Madison territory into Huntsville (the current site of Town Madison). He is far smarter, i.e. experienced in multi-million dollar residential/commercial projects, than all of our city leaders put together. You can be sure he'll pull a few rabbits out of the hat as things proceed, to the consternation and immobility of the mayor and city council. I guarantee it's ultimately going to cost we citizens more than was bargained for.

We need to understand all the assumptions that go into the economic analysis. We should not tie up most of our available bond money unless there is a clear revenue stream over and above paying the operating costs and debt service. The risks must be evenly spread between City and developer based on the potential reward for each.

I don't believe that the City has shown with sufficient certainty that we have a "non-tax" revenue stream of sufficient volume to pay back this Bond. If we do not it will result in Tax $ being siphoned off of services to pay the bond. I think the city has been (as it often does) operating WITHOUT full transparency to the voters.

FYI All The price tag for this package will be at a minimum of $86 million, not $46 million. The City has to find a way to fund an additional $40 million for the I565 interchange. It Is not clear if the existing debt owed the developer (up to $20 million max) is an additional debt. Could raise the total to close to $100 million. It is true to be fair, that the interchange will serve more than the stadium, but it is a debt to be paid in any case.

An expenditure this large should be put forward to the citizens of Madison. I would suggest that each of us contact our city council members to convey our sentiment.

What happens in 15 years when the stadium is no longer good enough? Will we have an empty decaying monstrosity in our backyard?

Don't use taxes to subsidize an unprofitable private venture!

Madison’s leadership has not made the case to the public on the benefits of city investing resources into a baseball stadium. It really isn’t going to improve the cities’ quality of life. At a minimum the city should allow the citizen’s to vote. Suggest adding it to June’s primary ballot.

We are currently ranked amongst the highest in the state for education. Let's continue to focus our money on educating our children rather than bringing in a minor league baseball team.

I think the ball team owners should have more “skin in the game” and less reliance on city funding.

I do not want my tax dollars going toward this waste of money when our infrastructure has such great needs. Put this to a vote by Madison citizens and it will not pass.

I disagree with the attendance estimates and don't think the team will happily use the stadium for 30 years while we pay it off. Please consider shifting more of the risk to the team and less to the city. Otherwise, please find something else for that space.

Give the people of Madison a voice in this project. It should be voted on.

I am not in favor of a ballpark around the corner from our neighborhood. How long before it is vacant like the now vacant ball park in Huntsville?
