As far as I know the limit is 120. Keep it at that, measured from the listeners distance and I'm sure complaints will go down. If it really was 156, then people should be sued and up on criminal charges. For those who don't understand, the decibel scale is logarithmic. 156 is considerable more powerful than 120, and absolutely damaging to humans. People wear hearing protection at gun ranges for a good reason, namely that they don't want instant and permanent hearing damage.

why didnt make a petition to ban all type of noise make cars trucks motorcycles sound and more and then including firework bombs so i will not support this petition at all sorry if you including all of them then i will support it

Yesterday my little daughter cried so much because of the noise,.i tried to go to Birgu feast, but i had to leave cause she was so scared of the noises!! It ruined our outing!!!

delete If you have read the description, it's the loud noisy petards that the petition is about, not the colourful ones. They serve no purpose and are definitely not nice to see - just a flash and a very loud bang.
The ground fireworks are not as loud, so the argument is invalid. I'm sure people do not travel to watch the petards go off. I'm pretty sure that the feast's statue has no preference for the very loud petards, and anyway the colourful ones are so much nicer and showcase the workers' craftsmanship to a much greater extent than the loud bangs.
Regarding tourists, it is not the first time that tourist guests at my mum's asked the question: "Are they training battle manoevers?" on hearing the loud petards go off with a big bang. I'm as sure that tourists love colourful fireworks as much as they don't understand the loud bangs.

If we do not have these murtali many Maltese people would stop going to feasts, even tourists. If they stop doing these murtali at least a quarter of the Maltese feasts would become less popular, and sooner they might even become abandoned feasts. The people who make these murtali risk their lives just for people's pleasure and of course themselves. If murtali stop these people would loose many interests, and also they would loose their love to feasts. Also these murtali are not only for pleasure to the people who make them and people who watch them, they are also a big devotion to the feast's statue.
Apart from all this the murtali are just as fun and dangerous as the ground fireworks ( irdieden ). So if you think that these murtali are more dangerous and less fun and attractive, think again. There are people who like to see murtali instead of ground fireworks ( irdieden ). And if you will try ban these murtali then go ahead and try to ban the ground fireworks ( irdieden ), which in my opinion must never be out of the Maltese feasts.
These murtali are also a Maltese tradition that will continue to grow even better and more fun in the future.
A big point to do this is of course is that if then only the sick people in their homes would be happy without the murtali, many people would be disappointed without the murtali, again including tourists.
In conclusion the murtali must stay because of their devotion to the saint, their popularity among people and tourists and their popularity to those people who make them. I am saying this to stand for all the people who like the murtali

Murtali had a function for calling the faithful to start celebrating the feast, there was no competition which is the loudest or repetitive of them all. Today we may revert to bell ringing to remind the faithful at the appropriate times. Moreover band clubs could also perform proper live music or synchronisation during the fireworks displays. Let sense prevail and make traditional and modern multimedia closer to perfection. Some enthusiasts, instead of wasting time in trying to explode the festa away, should acquire new skills instead of betting for the loudest make by organising and transmit their festa via the internet to those at home due to unfortunate circumstances and later edit a video album as part of the festa activities. Let's call the festa by ringing a bell symphony please. It's better to bet on the largest audience and give the money to charity than making ourselves barbaric and inconsiderate. Too much noise and clutter reduces exposure, Enthusiants could also organise a banquet or bbq to visitors prior to major displays, visitors are moer attracted for a good meal than by bursting the sky with non comprehensible murtali.

It sounds worse than war most of the time and it feels so bad even in your stomach when they're close. Can anyone who loves them imagine how it feels for a sick person, especially the ones who are bound to stay in bed??!!
