I will be one of the speakers at the County Legislature meeting tonight (12/19). A million reasons to ban this stuff!

As a packaging science minor, there are alternatives to styrofoam that are not as harmful to our environment- policy change will give them an incentive to be more widely used (such as ecovative's mycelium packaging in Green Island). Please ban styrofoam!

Styrofoam is something that I thought should have been banned when I first saw it more than 50 years ago!

Styrofoam is not a readily recyclable material. We don't want it around for thousands or even of hundreds of years.

As someone who has worked in food industry for several years, I understand the amount of waste a restaurant or food serving establishment can produce. I would hope to see a day where styrafom is no longer accepted as a option to add to our societal waste production. Enforce that we only use products that break down over a reasonable amount of time in our landfills, and maybe we'll see a dent in lengthening the duration of a landfills usage and protect future environmental usage.

Molly, thanks for signing my petition. The good news is that, for a local example, you can look at the Bethlehem Central Middle School. They eliminated foam and all throwaways and have a major recycling and education program, composting program and organic gardening program. So, if yo are inspired to work on the schools in your area, use this an an example. Tours for school officials and activists can be worked out too! Please forward the petition to everyone you know in Albany County.

I am discusted by the fact that many of our schools have to serve food on styrofoam in the cafeteria while in the classrooms they teach the children to take care of the planet and recycle. There are inexpensive alternatives available.

It is vitally important that the younger generation see that we are taking steps to provide a sustainable future for them. This is an easy step in that direction that speaks volumes to this commitment.

Ban styrofoam now. This is LONG overdue.

Because styrofoam has such a long-term negative impact on the environment, I really don't want to purchase food to go from establishments that use styrofoam - but this often isn't evident until the food arrives. I'd like to be able to support Albany County restaurants with confidence that I won't be adding to our waste problems. Please consider outlawing styrofoam in Albany County for all our sakes.

no reason for styrofoam containers anymore. There are plenty of recycleable and compostable options these days. Just ban it!

Styrofoam is an unnecessary and harmful waste product that is easily replaced with recycled card/pulp bio containers. Lets make it happen
