instagram is a great place to share photos and videos but some people see it as a way to glorify self harm, depression and eating disorders. i feel that the hashtags and accounts supporting these should be prohibited. it would make it a nicer application to use and make it safer for the younger people using the app.
ive been reading through all the stories people are leaving in the comments and it just shows how urgent this really is. i am still working on getting a contact person at instagram to actually look at these reports. thank you for staying with me while we push for a safer space.

im honestly blown away by how much this has taken off. seeing so many people agree that we need a safer space is giving me a lot of hope for how we handle this.

I agree. If instagram had banned self harm accounts before I know many people wouldn't of cut their selves

i agree 100%... having recently seen an image on the explore page of a cut up arm and feeling the need to do that to myself... i would like to know that this will not happen again.

I've witnessed girls at my school self harming because of photos they saw on Instagram through hashtags and accounts dedicated to pro-self harm; they said it looked like something they wanted to try out and this really has to stop now, it's ruining people's lives

I have had three accounts on my main turn into self-harm accounts without warning. I just go to refresh my feed, and suddenly, I'm being shown bleeding cuts. Fortunately, I'm not easily triggered by them. But every time that happens, I fear for those who are. That is why I want these kinds of things banned from IG.

Having gone through self harming as a legitimate addiction, it drives me insane to see Instagram glorying it. Especially the bullshit "15 likes and I'll try to stop cutting". No. This is not an addiction, it is simply to gain attention. It needs to be stopped.
