Ban on "political stickers." Are they going too far?

This draft does not promote any safer or more inclusive aspects of the student at all. On the contrary, this daft precisely targets a very certain group and certain message that are intentionally specified in the document. This draft is nothing but filled with a special agenda in mind. The draft itself also violates the freedom of speech. As the parent of current AHS student, I strongly disagree with this draft. This is nothing but ridiculous! Students of color and LGBTQ students, who disproportionately experience discrimination in school buildings, a safe space for all, or symbols such as a Black Lives Matter poster or a Pride flag can be useful tools for navigating their social and physical surroundings.

I would like to know why this policy is being proposed. Is it to address complaints raised by parents and students about current signage in the schools? Has there been a survey conducted to determine how the majority of students and parents feel about this policy? Is there any data that such a policy actually improves student academic performance and limits divisiveness? If none of the above apply, then this appears to be solely politically motivated and will be divisive. Did the board not hear the concerns of students last year who feel unseen, unheard, unsupported, and bullied? This is yet another policy which will do more harm than good.

I am personally disgusted and ashamed to have gone to this school that promotes hate.

Banning “anti racist notions in classrooms” is saying you are for racism.

For the safety and well-being of ALL students, please drop this proposal. Our students and staff deserve to be supported and cared for.

Get into the new world! Everyone should feel safe any place.

As a parent of a rising senior, I strongly oppose this ban. Not only would this ban prohibit her from displaying the flag of her birth country, it would create an extraordinarily hostile environment for so many of the students at Arrowhead.

Are you willing to go down in history as "Narrowhead High School"? Children need safe spaces, I cannot believe how far down the sewer this district is going.

This is absurd! Children expressing themselves in a safe and harmless way is not something we should be bothered about. Why not tackle more important things like the ACTUAL bullying and ACTUAL abuse that children of all races and sexualities face every day. That includes straight, white men/boys! They are also valid as people and deserve the same love and care as anyone else! I know they feel left out, and that’s sad. This is coming from a female member of the LGBT+ community. Remember, Pride Month is for everyone (yes, you too!); it’s about loving yourself, celebrating freedom of expression, and appreciating others’ differences, not just those of the LGBT+ community. That said, this kind of constricting behavior is only going to enable the ruthless hatred towards LGBT+ and other minority children even more! I’m sure that’s what they want, though… What a joke.

Making it explicit that an area is accepting of minority groups is not an attack on out group members, you are clearly projecting the white supremacist hate pattern on If I set a boundary with someone I am not attacking them. If I support one group I am not hating on other groups. If you perceive the actions of others promoting tolerance and openess as an attack, you are the one with psychological problems. You are part of the problem that results in school shootings and casual aggression & bullying.

As a proud AHS alum and openly gay man, this ban is absolutely insane in 2023. I was outed my senior year, 2000, and was basically on my own. I was lucky and had a great experience but I know others that were not as fortunate and having teachers/staff they can trust is VITAL. I’m embarrassed that this is even up for discussion at a school so well ranked and regarded. Do better AHS.

My daughter went to Arrowhead HS

A bell that cannot be unrung; not just for these students, but for anyone with a self to express. A place of education and development cannot thrive when young people are forced into a veneer of silence.

If any one would like to come to a meeting tomorrow at arrowhead on June 8th at 6:45 in the district office south campus come join us. Along with The meeting on June 14, 6:30 pm community conversations Board Meeting in south campus library where people should be allowed to speak.

This policy has not gone well for Waukesha, and would reflect poorly on our Arrowhead community. Inclusivity is not political.

As an alum of Arrowhead whose nieces currently live in the district, I am utterly disgusted by this proposed ban. Safe Space stickers are an essential tool for educators to communicate that all students will be respected and any argument to the contrary is absurd. Please do not make me embarrassed of where I came from.

A policy that discourages messages of tolerance is, by definition, intolerant.
