Ban Fracking in Afton

The facts all point to the truth. There is no such thing as "safe fracking". Hydraulic Fracturing is a life changing and life threatening process. Each well needs 400 tanker trucks to haul water and waste. 40,000 gallons of 600 chemicals and water are used for each fracture causing methane and toxic chemicals to leach out and contaminate groundwater. There are over 1000 documented cases of water contamination next to areas of gas drilling. The waste fluid is left to evaporate in pits creating abnormal ozone levels and pollution. Earthquakes have been recorded as a result of this process which in turn comprises and aids in the failure of concrete drilling shafts that are supposed to prevent leakage. We the undersigned as landowners who purchased only surface rights to lands subdivided from the Briggs Farm, with no mineral rights had been informed fracking was safe. However with new studies, recent accidents, contamination and earthquakes from this process we now believe this process to be unsafe and destructive to our land. We implore you to ban hydraulic fracturing in the town of Afton.
