Remember one thing folks, I learned the hard way, an elderly person with dementia can be baker acted against their will and put into a psych ward because they get agitated. They will be put into the wArd without their regular meds and put on psychotic drugs. This happens. Be very careful what you wish for and what petitions you sign.

A friend of mine has a family member who is dual diagnosis he is 19 yrs old very intellegent, raised by two loving parents and family. He started smoking pot at 15 and doing Xanax and has exhibited signs of mental illness such as paranoia, conspiracy, talking out loud to himself while in his room. Playing video games believing that there is a glitch in the game & that he discovered this theory . He was held for observation overnite but the doctor while talking to him as I said he is very intelligent, let him out. He now is a danger to himself and my family. I am in the field of mental health and have suggested a 6 month lock down treatment facility. Thank you Anastasia Messina

Absolutely necessary to make sure that folks who are in need of mental health care get the care they need, particularly when they are in crisis. When a mental health patient is off meds they must be stabilized to protect themselves and those around them. This is not inhumane, it is a means of protecting those who cannot protect themselves.

Trying to get help for my daughter in N.Y. No one seems to be able to make her get help. She refuses and she is in a real bad situation. Sheriff was there last night
and so was CPS. Mobile crisis unit said they cannot help either unless she agrees. She is an adult and as two children. The children went with there father at this time. They are separated. I don't know what else to do. Who can make this happen?

Trying to get help for my daughter. She has refused help. It is a bad situation and we don't know what else to do! Sherriff has been there and also CPS. They said they cannot do anything unless she agrees to get help and she refuses. I don't know where else to go with this and how can this be done?
