Bainbridge Islanders for a Safe and Equitable BISD-based Remote Learning Option

I teach at the college level and am teaching online -it's doable. In addition to bringing the virus home to older people, we don't know what will happen with asymptomatic Covid children later in life. We know that viruses like chicken pox herpes (cold sores, Epstein Barr) and others can cause outbreaks for the rest of their lives. So please protect our children's futures and their teachers and parents.

Please help us forge a different path for the school year!

For students with special needs, whose parents can't afford to pay an individual aide, especially, these are not the best options.

Teachers are trained to TEACH. We have the benefit of accessible technologies for educators to give their lessons to their students via webcams. Use a platform to manage the curriculum but let them address their students as they would live.

Either Or rarely is the solution. Take a conservative pathway until you can provide safety to all.

Would love a BISD online program run by our teachers with options of taking classes at the HS/college level with other programs if needed.

Edgenuity is not an option that supports equity or real learning growth. Hybrid option also favors families with someone at home to supervise and to transport. There has got to be a better way.

By October we will have to close the schools because this virus will spread like a cold amongst the student body but unlike a cold 5 percent of those who get this cold will die and another group will have lifelong health problems. Is it worth it?

The online completely cuts us off and gives us no social interaction with Fellow students. The hybrid puts people at risk and despite having schedule cleanings and scanning some people can be asymptomatic. I would love to do the same system we did in the spring. These new ideas just don’t seem to fit and are least helpful To students.

As a single working mom of two kids I 100% support this and have been struggling to make a choice.

I appreciate this option. This article also suggests working county wide, as schools have varying needs and so could support a broader community effort. In the meantime, I will choose the online platform instead of putting our teachers or community at risk. I am not worried about the online platform but am worried about the impossible choice of teachers and want to put families/kids in need first.

For the sake of consistency, safety, logic, and equity, this is the only approach that makes sense.

I am not sure zoom taught classes are the answer BUT I do believe the hybrid model should include a synchronous online component. Maybe this means a group of teachers from each grade create an equivalent package of learning. That way, WHEN we shut down, there is a system in place for all kids.

Please consider this proposal. I cannot rationalize putting staff & children into buildings & I cannot accept a credit retrieval program as equitable education. We want to remain in the district.

With so little known at this time, we are unwilling to send our 10th grade son into a classroom. We aren’t happy with edgenuity and sincerely ask that you consider this alternative to keep learning on the same pace for all students. Thank you
