Bainbridge Islanders for a Safe and Equitable BISD-based Remote Learning Option

This proposal for a BISD-based remote learning model combines health, safety and common sense.

We simply don't know the real effects of the coronavirus on children and the lingering effects on people of all ages. This is not something you guess your way through. Lives and long term health are at stake.

Kids in 3rd and 9th grade

Please consider this.

In order to protect our teachers, our broader community, and to focus district planning on a single delivery modality, thereby freeing up resources to support single parents and dual working families, I deeply support a remote launch.

I’m not comfortable with either option offered. I would like a 100% continuous learning 2.0 from our schools teachers, for my children 11th and 1st grade. I would prefer that funds go to our district, but unfortunately, if this option is not offered, I will be withdrawing my children.

As a retired teacher, remote learning is the only safe choice at this time.

Please seriously work toward this solution to serve all students safely.

No t all families have a stay at home parent who can teach children all day. Do they risk losing the job keeping their family a float? Not all families have technology and/or internet connection.

This is the wisest decision to protect students and teachers and provide an equitable, school based education.

I believe this way of learning will serve most vulnerable populations and provide equity for all students.

The current options either endanger everyone or provided a lackluster education for only those who have the means to keep kids at home and have the tech/resources for it. We need to look at options exactly outlined in this petition.

We selected the hybrid option Early in the process but support the plan laid out in this petition.

It would be wonderful if el velero students could receive Spanish instruction regardless of whether they are in-person learning with the hybrid model or distance learning from home.

Please find an equitable and safe solution for all BISD families. That solution may not be the same one-size fits all for every family, especially those who need special considerations and accommodations to learn, or parents who work outside the home in essential services. However a good start would be to offer everyone the same “CL 2.0” option with their own classroom teacher(s) and peers to start the school year for most students who are able to learn from home. This would allow the schools to focus on the most needy students in person, but with the most stringent safety measures, including free and regular testing for staff working in the buildings. Thank you.

We will most likely withdraw enrollment if there is no BISD-based full-remote option.
