Canadian Banks In the Bahamas - Ombudsman

The bank people on the front line here are mostly lovely people. But the scallywags making the bank policy and paying the top lawyers hundreds of thousands of dollars to carry out their devious practices leave the comman man defenseless against these, what would be in other countries, criminal acts. Its time Bahamians have the same protections and are treated the same as the bank's Canadian customers

The lack of bank accountability is truly incredible here. It makes Monty Python look tame. If any customer of a bank from Canada came here and banked here they would be appalled at how differently Bahamians are treated. And if these practices were in USA you would have multi million dollar law suits against the banks routinely. No wonder two leading law firms here are helping the Spicers (with litigator Dywan Rodgers at Meridian Law Chamber currently leading the charge), I would not be surprised if many other bank customers now contact Meridian or Callenders to discuss how they have been treated!

The banking system here is HORRIBLE and so is the scustoner service. The bank system set up is ancient. This is 2016. You should be able to access your acct info real time. The fact that the bank doesn't have a toll free number to call is beyond me. Not one of the banks has an after hours number to call either. The list of deplorable practices done blatantly the the banking institutions is endless but I have to say the worst habit of these banks has to be the lack of accountability. No one ever owns the mistakes and they all go to great extents to cover it all up. I myself a victim of the banks covering up there mistakes and making matters worse for me and never owning the mistake.

Your savings account is given a service charged $10-15 per month, why? So if you don't add funds to that account, the bank can wipe out a $200 balance in 2 years

The banking system in this country seems designed to keep poor people poor. Low interest rate payouts and high service charges. Also government taxing your money constantly.

We need much lower competitive interest rates. More Bahamian banks. Removal of ridiculous fees. More competition between banks. Better customer service and better laws to help the mortgagee who has been paying mortgage for over 5 years to keep their homes. Last encouragement to do transactions online in this 21st century.

It is ungodly how the government allows the banks here in the Bahamas to get away with murder! I've lived and visited many other countries and the Bahamas is by far the worst situation for residents when it comes to banking. The fees rates and overall practices allowed by our government say to the world that we don't care about our citizens.

I think that bank hours are not designed for the common man. It is very difficult to make time to go to the bank on a regular work schedule. Customer service is terrible by Canadian banks in the Bahamas!

Banks in this country take extremely long to deal with personal matters. Papers sit on desks for long amounts of time. Banks in this country need a sense of urgency, accountability, and responsibility!

Please do the right thing. The Spicer family will always put the community first. So should the Canadian Bank.

Sending all our support to Malcolm, in this deplorable case. Incidents like this are happening all over the Caribbean, & Bermuda. These large Banking institutions need to be a lot more accountable for their accounts.
