Sad sad times. When one bad apple moves into a neighborhood community or building / facility and they like nothing about. And keep trying g to change it . And in this can force others with unjust cause to lose that we have . Chicken are far cleaner than pigeons. And give back in harvest .

Just leave it alone they aren’t hurting anyone like really what about the ones that have Junkie yards and dogs Barking all hours of the nights or the big truck with there Jake break one

Everyone with a backyard should be able to keep chickens. We need to br more self sufficent and this is a great way of doing so. I am a retired dairy farmer and stand behind this family. A cap on the number would be advisable for all small plot situations.

One person's complaint should not decide the whole outcome . Are the supporting neighbours in the vicinity? He should be allowed to raise his chickens . He is showing entrepreneurial leadership in his community.

Outdated bylaw

Huntsville has to start supporting sustainable life styles and stop bullying their citizens.

As a seasoned chicken owner, I can say with 100% certainty that chickens are less of a nuisance than dogs. Should the municipality decide against this young man’s petition, perhaps they should consider banning ownership of ALL domestic animals, since there is no logical reason that residents should be restricted from owning hens. Encourage our youth to take such initiatives and support their efforts, or keep yourself quiet when they find other - destructive and rebellious - interests.

Let people have chickens if kept clean.

This law needs to be updated, if your land is rural residential it should be a no brainer, its not like they are living in a subdivision where the neighbor is 2 ft away! Not to mention the responsibility this young man is learning!

Enough with the insanity. In this age of green initiatives and going natural, why do bureaucrats put ridiculous bylaws in place? This is a healthy, non invasive, project for the young man. More people should be encouraged to have backyard hens and gardens. Who decided you needed an acre for a few hens? My guess would be someone who has never owned hens. Exempt them or rescind the ridiculous bylaw. I would laugh at the idea of five chickens per acre if it wasn't so completely ludicrous. Btw, the hatchery usually sells 6 chickens minimum order so what do you propose he would do with the sixth chick? Someone needs to put forth a motion at council to rescind or ammend the bylaw.

Seriously. Update the bylaw or give them an exemption.

Having raised chickens ourselves, my husband and I know the value of having these wonderful creatures. We fully support the need to rethink the town's outdated bylaw and allow this family and others like them to keep chickens in a responsible manner.

The bylaw should be revisited. In urban communities we continue to see people owning and taking care of chickens on lot sizes smaller than 3/4 of an acre. The area in question is rural. I support revisiting the bylaw in order for families moving forward to live sustainably. The family obviously is taking care of the chickens and land as they have already garnered the support of the surrounding community minus one neighbor. As long as the family is taking care of the chickens they are leading by example teaching their child responsibility and more importantly sustainability. Forward thinking must start to become forefront and centre and not continuing to accomodate the few who are vocal in their pessimistic virws.

Just let Riley keep his chickens, he is obviously a mature, caring little guy and isn’t harming anyone.
