I am a Certified Peer Specialist who has worked in our State Mental Institute at Ft. Logan, and now in a county jail's competency restoration unit. I see so many folks who arrive in Stage 4 when it could've been prevented. Mental Health including addiction needs to be a priority in Colorado. Let's be known for being leaders in advocacy, legislative, and outside-of-the-box thinking when it comes to this issue, rather than being known for national tragedies that promote personal and social stigma.

Teen years and sometimes before can show whether there will be issues for a person later in life. My family knows how difficult it is to see a loved one live with mental illness.

This is such an important issue! Stop discrimination against mental illness! Get people the help they need B4...they take their own lives, become homeless, end up in jail, they harm someone out of fear or they themselves are harmed due to stigma and fear! Only good can come from ending stigma!

I was lucky to have my Bipolar Disorder detected when it was. Hopefully, this will make late detection the exception, not the rule, and sufferers can have a similar experience to mine.

As a School Counselor with 650 students they deserve more support. We need to advocate in Florida for integration of mental health practitioners into school districts to help families and students.

I am a firm believer in this cause. I am a volunteer for the Out of the Darkness Walk in Warrensburg, Missouri where we are raising funds for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP),where we are raising awareness and support (Senator Blunt will be speaking at this event). I am also the vice president of the Student AFSP chapter at the University of Central Missouri. I hope we can see big change in the stigma of mental disorders. Based on the amount of people willing to participate in the groups and community walk I volunteer with, and who have had personal experience or who have known someone affected by the stigma, I can tell that people are ready for change.
