Acknowledging Audrey's right to be called by her chosen name and female pronouns takes nothing away from other students and teachers, and gives her a safe learning environment. This should be an easy decision.

If Audrey identifies as a female and is referred to as her/she then the listing with the school system should do the same. If you're willing to change her name, then you should change her gender marker. "'students have the right to learn in a safe and supportive environment that fosters hope, engagement, and well-being for all." By refusing to change Audrey's gender marker in their system, HCPSS is denying Audrey the right to learn in an environment that is supportive of her gender and confirms her safety from the harassment of other students" <-- that says it all. Change it; it's the right thing to do.

Please respect this student's (and any others in this situation) right to be recognized as her true gender. In addition to being extremely harmful to her, by capitulating to any complaints from other students, you deny those students the opportunity to learn to be accepting and comfortable with those who are different. This is your moral obligation to the future. Please stand up and do the right thing!

Howard County Schools must support the transitions of transgender students by changing the gender in the records and that staff address the students by when it is clear that the change is intended to be permanent. The evidence is overwhelming in this case and failure to do so is egregious.

HCPSS, as the mom of a Wilde Lake Middle schooler, I expect better out of you. Do not make school a hostile place for Audrey or set her up to be the target of bullies.

Why not just help this kid be more comfortable? How does it benefit anyone to make her uncomfortable? These kind of requests are not made lightly. High school is hard enough--no need to make it worse.

Once someone has changed their public persona to the gender that matches their psyche, they should be addressed as such. So Audrey must be addressed as "she". Once they take steps to makectheir body match their gender, their official records should be changed to reflect that reality. What someone's genitals look like is no business of any school board! Someone taking hormones to make their body look or function as a female needs to have their records reflect their reality by marking them as "F" when the choice is dichotomous.
