It's an excellent idea - great synergy between local law enforcement and our auto racing community!

My husband and I would travel from Salt Lake City to an AutoX event hosted here as would other members from our local club. More income for the area (hotels, restaurants) and more competition for everyone in the region.

Good group of people. Most street racing done is drag racing, not Auto Cross racing so I don't forsee it stopping kids from doing that as much. The events should make it a point tho to promote racing at the track(s) instead of the on the public roads. Much like how Firebird does Midnight Drag Grudge racing and tells the participants and spectators "Race the strip, not the street". This facility should be used for AutoCrossing only and not drifting IMO. Drifting marks the pavement up terribly and is too prone to accidents. If too many accidents happened, the facility could be taken away if it is allowed to be used to begin with. Accidents during an autocross involve someone hitting a rubber cone vs. Drifting where cars slide into walls and fences. Driver skills are improved much more by an AutoCross course than they are spinning your tires around a corner and pitching the car completely sideways over and over. Keep it limited to the SRRSCCA that uses the facility, they are a great respectful group who does positive things for the community and treats their venues very well while helping to improver the drivers on our public roadways.

Amazed that this isn't something that is already an option. Better letting taxpayers pay to have access to help use and maintain this tarmac than having it sit unused.

Pros: good for local business, eateries, gas stations, auto part stores, teach responsible driving, reduce law enforcement problems with street racers, safe controlled racing environment.
Cons: probably some. Hopefully the positive benefits out weigh them.

This is a facility similar to what SCCA rent from the state in Helena, Montana. We have shared a great relationship for many years.
