Forcing a group into a union shows complete disregard for both the employees and the union as it implies that the business will have greater control over the individual and a belief in the impotence of the union. If there was a desire to join the union, this would come from the employees and should be democratically voted on.

Employees should have a voice as to whether we agree to be unionized or not. To not allow us to have a say in this decision seems disrespectful to us. I wish our leaders and the AUPE would reconsider and allow us the right to have a vote.

don't like the fact that we have no say in the matter. What hope is there for a democratic process in the future?

I simply don't like the fact that we have no say in the matter. What hope is there for a democratic process in the future if its foundation is a dictatorial move?

Unions are for areas where working conditions are poor. AHS IT is quite content in my view.

I don't think a vote is too much to ask for

I have the right to decide.

It should be a choice, a ballot vote. To weigh the opportunity up before voting. That is freedom of choice and should be our right.

No choice at all, is the wrong choice!

"If you were charged with a crime would you go to court without a lawyer? Then why do you feel you can go into contract negotiations with your employer on your own?" Nice analogy; I like how you point out that we, just like criminals, feel the need to defend ourselves. Here is the answer to that question by the way: We feel that we do not need someone to represent us in contract negotiations because we know that they will be charging us a hefty fee (union dues for life) for negotiating a lesser deal.

May I assume you are not signing the petition?

J Feature: You didn't answer Lorne's question, just trying to defer blame away from the union to AHS. If the union really has our best interests in mind, they would ask us what we want before we join.

"If you were charged with a crime would you go to court without a lawyer? Then why do you feel you can go into contract negotiations with your employer on your own?" When the person or group that is going to represent us is going to get us a worse deal, and wants to take a cut off the top for their "help".
