This is a dangerous precedent for writing programs everywhere. University administrators should look somewhere else to address anticipated cuts. This will hurt the department and the university.

This is unconscionable. The recent "developments" in executive pay, corporate deals, and campus structures have been disturbing me--not only as an alumna, but as someone who cares deeply about and works within higher education. I was shocked to learn the base pay of full-time lecturers. The imposition of a 5/5 with no extra pay is deplorable. I will no longer sing the praises of my alma mater. I will cite it as one of the worst institutions among those who exploit labor and care not for the students beyond their tuition money.

This action directly contradicts ASU's own charter, which states that ASU assumes "assuming fundamental responsibility for the economic, social, cultural and overall health of the communities it serves." Prospective students should beware of the quality of the education they would receive at ASU if this measure goes forward. ASU is betraying its own principals.

It is absolutely wrong to require your instructors, who provide valuable service to your school, to teach an additional course for no additional pay. Moreover, your instructors who are not full-time, are adjunct, need to be paid at the national average. As a former adjunct instructor for 7 years (not at your institution), I'm appalled and ashamed that an academic institution would ever do this. Wrong on every level.
