We student leaders found last night’s mandatory lecture to be deeply unnerving and disrespectful. We are a diverse group of adults with a vast range of religious, personal, and sexual preferences, all of which deserve to be respected.
The beauty of religious life at Assumption College has traditionally been its understanding that student will find their own faith, in their own time, in their own way.
Last night’s lecture did not represent this principal and was not what we as student leaders represent. Tricking us into supporting an event that disrespected and disavowed so many lifestyles and personal choices in entirely unacceptable.
In the future, we hope to never be subjected to similar ‘mandatory’ events and demand to be treated with the respect we deserve.

The feedback from students across campus confirms that we are not the only ones who felt betrayed by that event. I am currently drafting a formal letter to the administration to demand a meeting about these mandatory sessions.

This was highly offensive, and I feel this kind of rhetoric has no place on our campus
I thought the mandatory event "Mercy beyond Measure: a conversation about love, relationships, forgiveness and healing” given by Joe Kranz on January 25th at 7pm in Hagan was a poor presentation due it's misrepresentation. Kranz talk was insensitive to the audience and did not relate or help the student . There needs to be more involvement in students in the selection and topics of mandatory events.

I think that the focus of any future conversation on this topic needs to steer away from a focus on the "hook up culture" and focus on helping students learn how to combat the rape culture that is present in so much of society and media today. There should be a focus on training students on how to help a friend who is in a abusive relationship, or even how to help a friend who they suspect may be an abuser. Instead of trying to tell us what not to do, there should be a focus on what we CAN do.
