Many members of the Illinois House of Representatives and the Illinois Senate believe that changing the Assessor's term due to a recent lame duck assessor is a wise thing to do. Changing this does not affect a standing assessor, but it does affect the taxpayer. If the House of Representatives vote for this bill then Assessor's in Illinois will have 1-2 months maximum to get their assessments in. Rushing assessment or doing nothing with assessments is not fair to the taxpayers especially in a down turned market when assessments are finally going down and will most likely adjust for the next several years. Assessor's currently take office January 1st after the election to coincide with the tax cycle. Changing this date is not the answer. This bill originated in the House as HB4627 and stalled in the Senate. The Senate/House Sponsors/Co-Sponsors felt it necessary to hijack a Missing Persons bill to try and sneak through this bill under HB2332. We ask that you sign our petition to protect your right to a fair and equitable assessment. Illinois Taxpayers deserve this and should demand this from their elected officials.
