Illinois House Bill 174 is comprehensive tax reform to raise billions in new revenue desperately needed to close the state’s huge budget shortfall and make taxes fairer. The bill, which passed the Senate last year but stalled in the House, would increase the state income tax from 3 percent to 5 percent, broaden the sales tax base, and expand tax credits for middle class and low-income taxpayers, homeowners and seniors.

I have been reading the stories some of you left in the comments and it reinforces exactly why I started this. My own family is feeling the pressure from this budget crisis every single day. We are keeping the pressure on the representatives in the House because they need to know we are watching.

Seeing this momentum grow has given me such hope for my daughter's school and the future of our community. It is clear that so many of you share my exhaustion with the budget neglect and the urgent need for a fair path forward.

Pass it already! Tired of seeing our schools and roads suffer while nothing gets done in Springfield.
Finally some tax relief for us seniors. We are struggling here!
TOTAL NO BRAINER. FIX THE BUDGET.
Please get this done for the sake of the state. We cant keep going like this.
it is about time we fixed this budget mess. illinois is falling apart and this is the only way to get things moving again.

About time the rich started paying their fair share. My family is hurting and we need this credits.
