Ask the City of Camas for more firefighters on fire engines

As a retired Vancouver Firefighter I know the dangers of responding with just two personnel on an engine. We had a minimum of three and often sometimes four. two is considered too dangerous to fire personnel. The law requires at least three. How are they able to get away with using just two? You cannot enter a burning structure with no one manning the pumping engine or no rescue personnel on the exterior. They cannot legally commence with extinguishing operations until additional firefighters arrive and by then the structure or lives may be lost. The Camas Department has highly trained, top quality firefighters and medical rescue personnel. They actually saved my wife's life after she suffered an cardiac arrest. But they had to respond with two separate units to accomplish it which left other parts of the city unprotected. At a heart attack scene, you need a minimum of three people to work the patient. We cannot benefit from our professional firefighters until they have proper and adequate manning.

The firefighters need to staff the trucks for safety.

For the safety of the firefighters and residents, we need engines properly staffed.

We completely support the Camas fire department

Camas is growing, and the value of homes here is also growing. For protection of citizens and property, we need our fire and rescue operations to be well staffed. We can afford the taxes necessary to do this.

A firefighter's job is to help in times of emergency, it's incongruent and unsafe to have our engines understaffed. They should not have to choose between safety, following the law and doing their job well. This is life and death (or at minimum wellbeing). Protect our firefighters and our community by properly staffing our engines.

Now is the time to bring the Camas/Washougal Fire Department to industry standard staffing levels.

Providing minimum staffing is essential for both the safety of fire fighters and those they serve.

Time to make this right.

It’s terrible the firefighters lose their benefits if they are injured rescuing someone when there is only two firefighters on scene.

It’s a no brainer. We as the citizens, can not expect proper life saving efforts with under-manned engines and ambulances.

There should be enough people on the truck to fight the fire and to protect the people inside of the house. You don’t just fight the fire

If Camas actually budgeted for their fire department at the rate that they claim in their "Camas Washougal Fire Department Procedures" press release, then we would already have 3 firefighters on the engines. The money that is already collected FOR having a fire department needs to go TO the fire department. The city administration needs to start prioritizing based on NEEDS vs WANTS. Shady government practices in Camas forcing the firefighters to stand up for the safety of our community.

With how we have grown in the past 20 yrs. This is unacceptable to not have a safe amount of first responders. How can we expect them to do their jobs efficiently. With a 2 man team? It's past time to address this matter. For the safety of our town's and first responders.
