To limit the relationship with a professional therapist and their client seems to fly in the face of the reason why people (and in this case youth) seek help.

Two of my children survived sexual abuse. My daughter was on suicide watch for 6 months straight until we found a counselor who could help her sort through things with the freedom to explore whatever she needed. Counseling saved their lives. I am horrified by the idea that politicians should determine what doctors she could have. They have no idea the subtle nuances that come up in a doctors office. Let doctors make the choice of how to help people.

Parents need to be able to help their children embrace BEST PRACTICES -- those behaviors and goals that have the best chance of restoring in happiness, security and good health. BEST PRACTICES includes being happy with your biological sex.

I agree the Psychologist Licensing Board should seek to protect all minor children by rejecting the current proposed language and find new language that protects client self-determination, in order that they may seek any assistance wanted in dealing with unwanted same-sex attraction, including but not limited to, talk therapy.

Therapists and youth should both have the freedom to discuss whatever is needed when they seek help. No one should be forced to receive change therapy if they don't want it. But they should also not be prohibited from getting help if they want it!

Therapist should have the liberty to discuss individual concerns regarding gender in an open way without being constrained to one train of thought. LGBT youth need to be protected, however this is not how I conceive it to be equitable. The proposed language witll strip Utah teens and families to work with the licensed professional therapist of their choice who will honor their freely chosen values by restricting WHAT a therapist CAN discuss. This is not freedom.

It is a travesty to make illegal for those seeking help to receive it. I am a Utahan and the day will come when we shall see that we are not doing those individuals any favor by affirming what is not so. Those very individuals will turn around and sue those who claim they are affirming them in days to come.
