I agree with the attached petition. I do not want to be forced to refer patients for elective abortions. The AAFP is a fine organization but I do not agree with the AAFP having a public position supporting elective abortions and any time during pregnancy; nor mandating us to refer patients for elective abortions...

FORMER AAFP member. How easy it would be for the AAFP to actually do an internet/email poll with neutrally worded questions of its members to actually ask them what limitations they would prefer on abortion. They would respond that they did talk about it - but at the small upper levels of the elite. Fine. They would claim to believe in actual democracy - better! Let the members vote!

First do no harm might as well be stricken from our oath as physicians if medical societies continue to push these political (not medical) agendas.

AAFP member. As a physician for 23 years it is baffling that without any science to back this position (abortion) that it is framed as a woman's right issue and not a life or death issue. Tragically it is becoming a woman's right to end the life after delivery. When will this arbitrary line in the sand end?

I am a family physician of 24 years and member of AAFP. I whole heartedly agree with this petition and strongly urge the AAFP to at the very least remain neutral as regards to the issue of abortion, or better yet to side on protecting unborn human life, that we claim to have the capability to care for.
