I have been an AAFP member for 19 years. I ask AAFP to reject positions in support of abortion. Thomas Jefferson wrote in our Declaration of Independence, "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." The unborn fetus has the right to life, just like any other human. The right to life trumps all other rights and as physicians, we should be in the business of improving the life of our patients, not taking that life away. Thank you!

I am terribly disappointed and feel betrayed by the AAFP, to which I have been an active and paying member for 35 years, that our specialty of FAMILY Medicine would not be most strongly advocating for the life and health of our smallest and most vulnerable patients.

Unconscionable that your organization would adopt any other position than neutral or against abortion. Abortion is NOT women’s healthcare, it is a surgical procedure that ends a baby’s life and harms the woman subjected to it!

please support the health of babies in the womb.In addition, consider the mental health of women who experience abortion. We are a field that is concerned with the whole person over a lifetime- not just what might seem to be an expedient decision of a crisis. Please don't promote ready access to abortion as healthcare- it is not.

I am a medical student excited about family medicine. I am asking the AAFP to reject recent support of abortion because I feel that valuing the intrinsic value of the life of every patient is the paradigm on which the profession of medicine was and should be built; and that this is incongruent with the idea that life can be something we only support when the patient wants it.

I am board certified in Family Medicine. I have been an AAFP in past, but I do not support AAFP’s current stance in support of unrestricted abortion and being against provider conscientious objection. These stances are not good healthcare but the opposite.

We need to not advocate for performing abortion, but using better parenthood services first, then refer for further care as needed. Family docs should not be doing anything close to abortion.
